Hey guys, welcome back to my blog. In today’s blog post, I would like to share some information regarding the global conference that is currently held in Glasgow, UK. Yes, COP26, and it stands for the 26th Conference of the Parties.
So, what is exactly COP26?
COP26 is the annual global summit held to discuss the climate change issues that we are currently facing right now. Each year, the United Nations, as the initiator, invites world leaders, negotiators, government representatives and citizens to talk about several measures to tackle climate change. This year, COP26 expects participating countries to set ambitious action plans to press down global warming to a 1.5-degree level, which is absolutely not easy to achieve. And the bad news is the time is ticking fast.
Several action plans are discussed during the COP26 to achieve this target, such as banishing coal and promoting electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions. In addition, the wealthiest nations that historically produced a high amount of carbon emissions are expected to provide 100 billion dollars every year to support the rest of the planet in green planet initiatives. Last but not least, COP26 also encourages countries around the world to commit to restoring nature and habitat as well as ending deforestation because trees are our best defence in tackling climate change.
Do you still think that climate change is not a real deal? Let me explain it to you.
A few weeks ago, I attended a virtual roundtable initiated by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia. On this occasion, FPCI invited more than ten ambassadors worldwide to discuss the holistic plans that each country has arranged regarding the endeavours to save our planet from climate change issues. That day, I also heard that in order to achieve the 1.5-degree level, we have to cut down the carbon emissions by 50% within 10 years and 50% more in the next decade. Unfortunately, if we can not achieve this number by the next twenty years, it will be too late for us to save the world from global warming. The worst scenario is our world will be too hot for us to handle. Do you still want this to happen? Do you want to let your children live on a boiling planet in their entire lives?
If your answer is no, then you should start taking some actions from today. I believe, together, we will be able to save our world from climate change and make it a greener and better place for our future generation.
I think that’s all for my today’s post. I hope you will find this article informative and eye-opening since I believe that actions come from awareness. Therefore, I decided to keep posting about sustainability and climate change matters on my Instagram and blog as kind reminders for all of us to start taking action to protect our planet.
