Hey guys, welcome back to my blog.
In this post, I would like to share my experience while studying a short course about sustainable fashion on Coursera, an online learning platform. In this particular course, they are partnered up with Parsons School of Design, The New School. It is one of the best fashion schools in the world, located in New York City. (Disclaimer: this post is not sponsored)
I took this specialisation course in July since I would like to dive deeper into fashion sustainability. The course comprises three modules: fashion design, fashion system and transformation of fashion retail with sustainability as its core aspect across all the modules. In my honest opinion, this course perfectly fits my needs as an aspiring sustainable fashion entrepreneur since I want to build my own business in the future. Deeply, I know that I would like to launch my own brand. However, I could not find a perfect platform and reasons to do it until I learnt about sustainable fashion.
As I already mentioned in my previous post, I learned about sustainability in 2019 through an environmental campaign. Since then, I have been interested in this movement and cause. As a fashion content creator, I would like to use my “influence” to spread awareness of sustainable fashion and its impacts to my audience. Indeed, sustainability is not easy to achieve; even I am still working hard to be more sustainable day by day. It will take years or even decades to make significant progress. However, through continuous efforts to reduce the global impacts of fashion waste, we together can achieve sustainability and save our planet.
I gained so much information and knowledge about fashion sustainability from the modules. I learned a glimpse of fashion history, systems, sustainable designs, fashion technology, and even a circular business model. In addition, they also cover the latest trends and even the post-pandemic fashion business. Therefore, I would like to recommend these modules to those who want to gain a deeper understanding of fashion sustainability. Certainly, everyone has a different opinion and experience while studying these modules. Still, personally, these modules have broadened my horizon in the fashion industry.
Regarding the modules, basically, there will be several units in a single module. Each unit will provide you with several pre-recorded videos about 1-15 minutes long from the lecturers at Parsons. They comprise fashion experts, professors, and even Parsons alumni. They will also be several reading materials and quizzes to assess your understanding of the modules. If you pass the passing grade of all the units in a module, they will award you with a certificate of completion after the final quiz. Also, you have an option for a 7-day free trial or you can directly subscribe to their single learning program, monthly program or even annual program.
So, guys, I think that is all. I hope you guys enjoy today’s post and find it informative and useful for your interest, study or even career aspiration as I am.
